Magnolia Grandiflora ‘Goliath’

An evergreen magnolia, hardier than other grandiflora varieties, with larger and longer-flowering blooms plus the ability to flower at an early age. Magnolia grandiflora ‘Goliath’ forms a rounded, bushy tree clothed in dark green, broad, leathery leaves up to 20cm long that have reddish-brown undersides. From mid-summer to autumn, it produces enormous, bowl-shaped, creamy-white flowers that can reach up to 30cm across. The waxy-petalled flowers bear a delicious perfume and look immaculate framed against the dark green foliage. Plants will begin bearing flowers when only 3 years old.

In large gardens, Magnolia ‘Goliath’ can be grown as a large and impressive specimen tree. Alternatively, its width can be contained by training it onto a sheltered, sunny wall where it will appreciate the residual heat. Maximum height: 10m (32ft). Maximum spread: 5m (23ft).
