Lagerstroemia Indica ‘Dynamite’

“Dynamite!” was the reaction of the breeder of this fabulous Lagerstroemia when he saw his seedling come into flower. From mid-summer, Lagerstroemia indica ‘Dynamite’ explodes into a mass of brilliant red flowers, creating an extravagant blazing display that smothers the foliage. The unusual crepe-like flowers are held in large panicles, up to 20cm long, and their papery texture means that they last for an incredibly long time, with the flowering performance continuing into the autumn. ‘Dynamite’ is a variety especially noted for the clear intensity of its red-coloured blooms.

Lagerstroemia makes a dramatic specimen shrub for a south-facing patio or sheltered wall where it can soak up plenty of heat, usefully extending the season not only with its wow-factor flowering performance but also with its colourful foliage which emerges crimson in the spring, matures to dark green in the summer and then turns orangey-red in the autumn. Maximum height: 400cm (157in). Spread: 300cm (118in).
