A hardy coniferous small tree with erect branches and radially arranged leaves to 8cm (3″) long. Often called ‘Plum Yew’ as the female tree produces plum shaped 3cm (1¼”) fruit containing a single hard seed surrounded by a fleshy green covering, the leaf shape resembles a yew. If fruits are desired then a male pollinator will need to be planted nearby. Plant in a shady position, will tolerate full sun but does not like very hot summer conditions.
